Councilman Snyder to Host August Council Connection

The next edition of "Council Connection", Spokane City Council hosted CityCable 5 program, debuts Wednesday, August 3rd. The first half will feature an explanation of current Salish efforts in the area and feature teaching demonstrations from specialists, Elizabeth Johnspone and Aspen Smith from the Kalispel Language Nest. This month's edition is hosted by Councilman Jon Snyder. His inspiration for the topic was stemmed from Spokane's local minor league baseball team, the Spokane Indians.

Shed Catches Fire Near Palouse Highway

Firefighters responded to a small fire in South Spokane early Tuesday morning.

A 25X25 ft. shed went up in flames on the 7300 block of South Palouse Highway, fire dispatch said.

Fire crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the brush.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause.

Fines Start Monday For New Photo Red Cameras

The warning period is over for three new red light cameras in Spokane.

Thery are located downtown at Browne Street southbound at 2nd Avenue, Maple Street southbound at 2nd Avenue, and 2nd Avenue westbound at Walnut Street.

Spokane installed the photo red cameras about a month ago.  Drivers didn't face fines for the first 30 days, but starting Monday tickets will be issued.

Drivers who run red lights at those intersections will get $124 tickets by mail.

Alaska Adds Flights To Seattle, Boise

Alaska Adds Flights To Seattle, Boise

Alaska Airlines announced Thursday that it's adding two new daily flights from Spokane to Seattle and Boise.  The service begins daily starting January 8, 2012.

The announcement comes just days after Southwest Airlines announced it would discontinue its service between Spokane and Seattle starting in January.

Alaska Airlines representatives said they were excited to expand service in the Pacific Northwest.
