Nominate a Local Business for Civic Award

The Washington Secretary of State office is opening up nominations on Friday for this year's Corporations for Communities 2011 Award. Last year, Secretary of State Sam Reed, selected two corporations, one large and one small corporation that were recognized as exceptional Washington businesses that demonstrated a commitment to giving. GLY Construction in Bellevue and Dissmore's Foods in Pullman were selected as the winners, picked from a statewide pool of nominees.

Beer And Charity!

Beer and charity! Talk about a great mix. The 3rd Annual Monroe Street Pub Crawl is just weeks away. The bender includes a 3.5 mile trek along Spokane's historic Monroe Street and includes visits to about 10 establishments, depending of course on your endurance.  It's all to raise money for health care for kids in Jamaica.

Budget Talks...Who's Going To Budge?

Budget talks between President Barack Obama and his GOP rivals remain at a frustrating standstill as lawmakers return to the White House for another negotiating session today. At Tuesday's House Republican Leadership Press Conference, Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris-Rodgers told reporters both sides of the aisle must work together to make ends meet. McMorris-Rodgers says before House Republicans even consider raising the debt ceiling, there needs to be significant spending cuts. Democrats say those cuts will affect important programs that we depend on today.

Inland Northwest Honor Flight is making it's third trip of 2011 this Friday July 15 at 11:55. Vets will be gathering at the Spokane Airport about 10:30 am...they will return Sunday July 17 at 4:20 in the afternoon. INWHF will be making a special presentation on Friday July 15 to the family of Pvt. Herman Sturmer whose remains were recently returned to Spokane. Inland Northwest Honor Flight continues to honor our living World War II vets for their sacrifices and especially those who paid the ultimate price--giving their lives to protect our freedoms.

South Hill Subway Robbed At Gunpoint

Spokane Police are looking for a man suspected of robbing a Subway on the South Hill Wednesday night.

The robbery took place at the restaurant on 29th between Regal and Ray around 10 p.m.

Police say the robber pointed a gun at one of the clerks and demanded cash. When the robber decided the clerk wasn't going fast enough, he started taking money out of the cash register and left on foot.

Police describe the suspect as five feet ten inches, wearing a gray collared shirt with diamonds on the right sleeve. He also had a black ski mask with tassels hanging from the side.
