Candidate forums can be some of the best way to learn about your ballot choices. Watching oppositions tee off to carefully crafted questions by moderators is certainly one way to spend your evening. City Cable 5 is hosting multiple replays of primary election forums in July. They'll be recorded in front of a live audience in the City Council Chambers on Thursday, June 30th from 5 to 8 p.m. Hint: They're more fun in person!

Team St. Lukes continues to bring about their best when competing. Austin, Chelsea and Kristen have all made National standards which puts them into the Paralympic system and allows them to receive some support and opens up more opportunities/invitations for other events and camps. The athletes that have hit London standards, help get the US slots for London (Amber, Chelsea, Austin, and Kristen).

Effective July 1, All State Liquor Stores To Have Uniform, Expanded Operating Hours
Effective July 1, all state liquor stores will have the same hours of operation.* All state stores will also be open additional hours for added convenience. The WSLCB received funding in the state budget to standardize state store hours. Standardized hours are projected to generate nearly $800,000 in additional revenue during the 2011-13 Biennium. Currently, operating hours vary by location at the 166 state stores. The new state store hours will be:

Monday – Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Friday – Saturday: 10:00 a.m.

Residents took over South Hill streets Wednesday evening to promote pedestrian friendly activities and fitness. Children on bicycles shouted behind you to say "on your right", when in all actuality, they were on your left. They proudly dinged their tricycle bells with the kind of empowerment that only a grassroots event, like Summer Parkways, could instill. I spent my Wednesday evening making my way between bicyclists and other walkers (like me), through the course. Here are some visual highlights of the evening.

Hatch Road is Open! They're Done! Kind of.

Hatch Road is open to traffic! No more adventuring through residential side roads to get to Luna or the liquor store or Eggers or down the hill toward Highway 195! In a much anticipated press release, the City of Spokane announced that Hatch Rd. from 57th to 43rd is now open. The $516,000 project, funded by the 10-year Street Bond and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, started in April and finished slightly ahead of schedule. The rehabilitation installed new curbs, sidewalks, a bike lane and a turn lane.

Young Muscians Compete At BOBfest

Young Muscians Compete At BOBfest

People in Riverfront Park got serenaded with the sweet sounds of young local bands Saturday. 12 teen bands competed in BOBfest 2011, Battle of the Bands at the Clocktower Meadow.

The competition gives young musicians a chance to perform in public and get critiqued by local judges. This year, Better Than Yesterday took first place. The band is made up students from Ferris High School and Odyssey Middle School. Lewis and Clark students in the band Battlesound got second place.
