Have you ever wanted to be able to just go out and collect your own fresh chicken eggs - but don't know where to start?  Well, now's the time to learn.  Paul and Susan are teaching a class "Chicken Keeping 101" at Sun People Dry Goods Co., 32 W 2nd Ave., Ste. 200 in Spokane for $20.  You'll benefit from their years of experience learning about housing, breed selection, feeding, raising chicks and egg production.  Class begins this Saturday, June 4 from 2:30-5pm.  The class size is limited so please make sure you pre-register.

Animals of Manito, Unite!

It's the first time ever attempted in the Manito neighborhood, maybe in the entire city of Spokane. Families of Manito are starting their first ever Pets and Pancakes for July 9th. The best part, there's a pet parade. It's like Camille Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals, except not. There's pancakes involved too.

"We're anticipating a lot of hilarity, fun and a great learning curve," Deb Barnes said. Some animals might not be fit for this event.

B-17 Touches Down In Spokane

A piece of WWII history will be touching down in Spokane from June 2nd through June 5th.  The Experimental Aircraft Association's B-17 "Aluminum Overcast" will be appearing at Felts Field this weekend as part of its "Salute to Veterans" tour. 

The B-17 Flying Fortress, best known for its ability to sustain significant damage, was instrumental in the Allied victory of WWII.  The "Aluminum Overcast" is one of 8 remaining B-17's that are still in flying condition and, while this particular aircraft did not take part in combat operations, it provides the pu

Spokane Public Market Opens For Business

Spokane's first year-round public market opens Thursday at 2nd and Browne and will offer fresh produce, meats, cheeses and creations from local artists.

The market was slated to open on May 26th, but was delayed to June 2nd because of construction along 2nd Avenue. Construction is ongoing along 2nd, but the market can still be accessed by traveling on Division and parking a block north on Pacific.

Spring In Spokane Was One Of Our Coolest And Wettest

Spokane residents should be congratulated.  We just made through the 9th coolest and 4th wettest Spring on record!  At Spokane International Airport, 6.89" of precipitation, both rain and snow, was measured for the three month period of March, April and May (climatologists use those months for "Spring" for record-keeping purposes).  This falls short of the record, which is 9.24" set back in 1948.  Records have been kept for Spokane since 1881.    There were some records broken this Spring in other Inland Northwest towns.  Deer Park

Filing Week In Spokane County

We're about to find out who's throwing their hat into the ring for office in Spokane County. Filing week is next week. Candidates can file starting Monday, June 6. They have until Friday, June 10th to get it done.

Candidates can file at the Spokane County Elections office from 8:30 Monday through Friday at 4:00. Or, they can do it online and pay the required free with a credit card.
