Booze News: Opening day for European-styled cafe

Beignets et la café, an European-styled cafe is now open in downtown Spokane. Located at 121 N. Wall, they have an open, but sit-down atmosphere. They serve bags of fried pastries which are their namesake. There is also an assortment of crepes on their limited menu.

A full bar is located around the corner, but at 10 a.m. that wasn't our priority. The beignets are a sugary powdery mess so beware.

Westside restaurant chain coming to Spokane

Hop Jack's applied for their new liquor license on Thursday. The regional restaurant chain is moving into 9265 N. Nevada St. near north Spokane's Service Station and WinCo Foods. It's not known at this time when they'll be opening.

There are currently five locations for the restaurant in Western Washington. Spokane will be their newest location.

Ordering off the menu

Here's a drink that you can request next time you're at Casper Fry in the South Perry Business District. It's not on the menu, but one of the servers makes a "souracre", a drink that was coined in Portland last year.

It's a mix of Campari, lime juice, rye whiskey and ginger beer. It tastes kind of like a bitter pink lemonade.
