New Moran Prairie STCU under construction | Business

A new credit union is coming to the South Hill's Moran Prairie. Spokane Teachers Credit Union broke ground on its new 4,096-square-foot branch near Regal and 57th in early July. The branch, located at 5711 S. Hailee Lane, should be finished by mid-October.

This newest STCU will be the 16th branch for the region's largest credit union. STCU actually bought the piece of land the future credit union will sit on back in 2008, but wasn't ready to build the new branch until now.

"The area is growing and it fits the needs of our members who live in the area. Our south branch is only getting busier and busier," STCU spokesperson Dan Hansen said.

The branch was designed by Nystrom+Olson Architecture. It will cost $916,000 and will be built by Walker Construction.

As with some of STCU's other branches, this one is being designed for eventual LEED Gold certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The new building will have several features including solar panels, heat-reflecting surface materials on the roof and highly energy efficient lights and heating systems.

Once completed, the branch will have a manager, assistant manager and eight other full-time employees.
