Booze News: Winery joins forces with brandy distillery | Business

Knipprath Cellars plans on sharing their space with a new business later this summer. Tinbender Craft Distillery is moving into a room previously used as a storage area for the east Spokane winery located in the old Parkwater Schoolhouse at 5634 E. Commerce Ave.

The winery owner, Henning Knipprath, confirmed the new tenant and says they’re incorporating part of the distillery operations into the winery later this summer.

The distillery will have separate equipment, but there will be some overlap in raw materials geared toward a variety of brandy. Brandy is a liquor distilled from wine or fermented fruit juice. 

The owner of Tinbender Craft Distillery, Paul Ziegried, says they're still in the application process for liquor permits and are jumping through government loops, but they plan on constructing the distillery this summer and hope to start producing later this year in the winter. 

Grapes used for Knipprath Cellar's wine will be an option for their brandy production, but Ziegried says he'll branch out to other Washington grape growers as well. 

An overlapping tasting room has yet to be determined.

New spa on South Hill will serve alcohol

A new spa is moving into the stretch of shopping along Grand Blvd. The Calm plans on moving into a space at 1303 S. Grand Blvd. The former occupants, Grassroots Wellness Spa moved out on June 1 to a new space inside the downtown Oz Fitness, located at 809 W. Main.

Unlike the former occupant, the new spa will have a private club beer and wine license. They can sell alcohol on-tap, or from bottles or cans for consumption inside the spa.

It’s not known when the spa plans on opening, but they are launching a website next week.

Brews on Washington announces their final last call on Saturday night

Another business comes to a close in downtown Spokane. Brews on Washington, located at 7 S. Washington, announced on Facebook earlier this week that after 13 months, they will be shutting down.

As a final goodbye to the bar, also known for coffee and trivia nights, they’re selling off their inventory at a reduced price. Until close on Saturday, draft beer pours are $3/pint and bottled beer is $2 off. Glasses of wine are $5 and bottles are $18 each.
