Discount Card Helps Non-Profits, Businesses and Consumers

Discount Card Helps Non-Profits, Businesses and Consumers

At the Corner Cottage in Hillyard, you can find pink porcelain pumps or painted tea pots. And if you bring the purple card you can also find some significant savings.

The card is the Spokane Grapevine Discount Card. The brain child of Monte Tareski, the $25 dollar discount card offers consumers a variety of discounts from local businesses across the region.

But it gets better. Local charities are selling the purple card, through local retailers, with 40 percent of the cost going directly to their programs.

That means for every card sold by Cancer Patient Care they get around $10. Melissa Halverson, the development director for Cancer Patient Care says, "We help with all those different financial areas even getting groceries or keeping the electricity on."

Downtown winery says they're for sale, but who are they?

There’s a winery for sale, but they’re not identifying who they are. A Craigslist posting says they’re located in downtown and their wine is sold at the Davenport Hotel.

New MacKenzie River Pizza Location Raises $5,000 For Charity

New MacKenzie River Pizza Location Raises $5,000 For Charity

The newest location of MacKenzie River Pizza used their soft-opening for a good cause. Instead of pocketing the night’s proceeds, they donated 100% of their earnings to the Wishing Star Foundation.

It was an invite-only event that brought in about 300 guests to the new restaurant, located at 57th & Regal.

The evening of fundraising is a significant part of the new store opening process for all of MacKenzie River Pizza’s locations. They use the soft-opening as a way to get a little work experience, but also give back to the community.

Wishing Star Foundation is a program that grants “wishes” for children ages 3-21 in Idaho or Eastern Washington who are suffering from life threatening illnesses.

Trader Joe's Prepares for Friday's Grand Opening

In less than 24 hours, a great mass of people will rush into Trader Joe’s. The store opens at 8 a.m., but passing neighbors can’t resist peering through the store’s windows.

KXLY got a sneak peak inside the grocery store. It’s visually impeccable with its fine placement of groceries including a row of blooming flowers and a massive pile of green bananas that greets you when entering.

The store features a set of murals that sets the pace for Spokane’s first Trader Joe’s. The murals aren’t exact, but they show the best visuals of the region including Manito Park, the Spokane River, Riverfront Park and across the state line: Coeur d’Alene Resort.

Store captain, Jason Martin, says their bread will be baked by a local bakery, but he can't say who just yet.
