Title (Max 100 Characters)
kxly4 took home two Emmy statues at the 48th Northwest Regional Emmy Awards Saturday, including the award for Best Evening Newscast. The Emmy for Best Newscast is especially important, as kxly4 HD News @ 6 was nominated against Portland stations to bring home the trophy. It was the only newscast from the Spokane market to win an award. In an email to the kxly4 staff, News Director Jerry Post wrote, "Thanks to each and every one of you. This award is your award, so congratulations."
kxly4 also won for "Drew's Gift," a story about Valley Christian football player Drew Swank. Swank died after a game last year and reporter Sally Showman and Ernie Vela told the story of Drew's organ donation, including the people whose lives were enhanced or saved due to the Swank family's decision to share that gift in the midst of their tragedy.
