SPOKANE-- With summer fast approaching many are looking forward to hot days by the pool.  For some low income families going to the pool is an expense they can't afford.

Once again this year the Spokane Parks Foundation is fundraising money to allow children to swim for free.  It's called the "Make A Splash" campaign.  The goal is to raise enough money to distribute passes to 2,000 children.

According to the Parks Foundation, more than 43% of children in Spokane County public schools lived at or below the poverty level in 2010.  That equates to about 34,000 children.

This year swimming fees for children increase from $1 to $2 at Spokane city pools.
