Kids hide in bedroom during burglary attempt
Crime, News

Three kids in Spokane County had to hide in a bedroom this week, while someone tried to break into their home.

A woman left her home Thursday in the 12100 block of south Valley-Chapel Road; she was taking her two sons to get their hair cut and left her daughters, ages 13, 9 and 7, at home. The 13-year old called her mom to say someone was trying to break into the home.

One of the girls told deputies someone rang the doorbell several times. The 13-year old described seeing a man who was about 6' tall at the front door. He had a medium build and was wearing a blue baseball hat.

She took her two younger sisters in a back bedroom to hide. They heard a loud sound and looked out the window to see a man driving away in a truck. The truck is described as small and white, possibly with a black stripe down the side. Crimestoppers is offering a cash reward for anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case.

Upon her return, the homeowner found the front door was still locked and didn't think anyone had gotten inside. Upon further inspection, though, she found a tea seat, a laptop and a camera missing from her bedroom. The items are valued at more than $1,000.

If you have any information, call Crimestoppers' tip line at 1-800-222-TIPS or send the information on the website. You don't have to leave your name to be eligible for the cash reward.
