City Council To Read Public Urination Ordinance Change

City Council To Read Public Urination Ordinance Change

A revolutionary ordinance could separate the act of urinating in public from Lewd Conduct.

The first reading of the ordinance made tonight’s agenda at Spokane’s weekly city council meeting.

Lewd conduct historically encompasses sexual acts that the assistant city prosecutor, Paul Masiello, says are separate and distinct from urinating in public.

The ordinance change would separate the two charges leading to quickly resolved cases. Convictions would not have the social stigma associated with the sexual acts included in the charge of Lewd Conduct.

A violation of the ordinance would result in a misdemeanor.

City council will take action on the ordinance change tonight.

Police Arrest Purse Thief Suspect

Police Arrest Purse Thief Suspect

Police have arrested a man they believe is the main suspect behind last week’s purse theft outside Huckleberry’s.

Jared Crabtree, 25, was arrested for eight counts of second degree theft, but not for that incident. It was a similar purse theft at Albertsons at 37th and Grand that sparked his arrest.

Police were called to the scene on October 21st around 5:25 p.m. where they found a purse stashed away in a nearby garbage can. The victim had eight credit cards stolen.

They believe Crabtree is the same suspect behind a similar mugging that happened on October 20th. Security footage show the suspects cornering a disabled woman outside her parked vehicle in the Huckleberries parking lot where they stole her purse.

Crabtree remains in custody.

A Ride-Along With Spokane Police Department

A Ride-Along With Spokane Police Department

I spent my Thursday morning, bright and early, with Officer T. Fuller as we patrolled for traffic violators in North and East Spokane. We encountered numerous speeders through the Nevada-Lidgerwood neighborhood and looked for parents transporting kids improperly on their way to Arlington Elementary School.

After a few weeks of ride-alongs with regional law enforcement agencies, many have asked, how do they participate in a ride-along. It’s a different process than what a member of the media would go through. The Spokane Police Department shared their details for ride-along qualifications for citizens and it has a few requirements.

“We offer this program as an educational experience,” Sgt. I. Yamada, patrol administration, said. “I would not approve anyone who wanted to ride for entertainment purposes.”

Business as usual even after Veda Lux Botique's unusual break-in

It started with a strange phone call from a private number around 5:15 a.m. It was early enough that Summer Hightower, owner of Veda Lux Boutique, didn’t answer it.

A mumbled voice left a message saying: “Your cash register is waiting for you at Grant Elementary in the gazebo. If you thought it was important, you’d answer your damn phone.”

Expecting a normal day at work, she came in to her South Perry Business District mini-windmill to find that things appeared to be okay on the outside.

SWAT Raid Recovers Stolen Guns

SWAT Raid Recovers Stolen Guns

A Spokane SWAT raid on the south hill last night turned up several stolen assault rifles.

Just after 8:30 last night, the SWAT team executed a search warrant at a home on the 3300 block of East 35th Ave.

Once inside, detectives recovered six to eight guns stolen from several homes in the Spokane Valley last week.

Sgt. John Nowels says the bust is significant because it's rare to recover weapons so quickly after they're stolen.

Officers arrested 42 year old Donald Patterson, 31 year old Jermaine Hockaday and 42 year old Kevin Boler.
