Search for moose brings Fish and Wildlife to Glennaire Drive

A possibly injured moose limped its way into the hills behind Glennaire Drive neighborhoods Tuesday morning. The incident was originally called into the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office by office staff at Moran Prairie Elementary who noticed it hanging around their school’s parking lot. The school’s principal, Dr. Mark Gorman, made sure no children were outside at the time.

Office staff watched as the moose, a young adult, adventured across the parking lot and into the playground. From there it crossed into the field at 57th and Glenrose Rd. crossing the street into the residential roads of the Glennaire neighborhood.

Sheriff’s Deputies and Fish and Wildlife officers unpacked their hazing gear from their vehicles at Glennaire Dr. and Williamette St. The moose was seen heading into the forested area just beyond the road. They marched through the tall grass hoping to find it. Just beyond the tree line, it was briefly seen darting into heavier patches of woods. Officers decided it was best to leave it be.

They say the most popular are Deception Pass, Fort Flagler, Grayland Beach and Cape Disappointment. None of those are Eastern Washington parks!

Huckleberry's Celebrates 15 Years in Business

Huckleberry's Celebrates 15 Years in Business

Huckleberry's could be considered ahead of its time. It was stalking its shelves with organic, natural products long before it became popular. And now, the natural market is celebrating 15 years in business.

The store opened in 1996 on South Monroe as the first full-service natural foods store. On top of the natural and organic produce, seafood, meats, dairy products, and even body care products, the store has become a meeting place for customers and friends. People gather for coffee, lunch, even drinks and conversation.

And now, 15 years after opening, the store continues to succeed. Satellite stores have opened in Rosaurers Supermarkets and Super 1's stores. There are even locations in Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.

When the Lands Council made their final push for votes during the Tom’s of Maine “50 States for Good” during the remaining week of the competition, they hoped for the best.

After crossing their fingers that they would come in first, it was revealed Thursday morning that they would not win the $50,000 promised for first place. Instead they came in at a strong second. As a finalist, they’ll still receive $20,000 to help plant 10,000 Ponderosa trees around Spokane.

“It’s not a let down, “ Amanda Swan, communications director, said. The Lands Council’s executive director, Mike Petersen, agrees.
