Sturgeon Season Extended In Columbia River

Anglers will get additional days to retain white sturgeon in the Columbia River estuary and in the Bonneville Pool. Fishery managers from Washington and Oregon, in a joint state meeting Thursday, announced those decisions after assessing catch data for both fisheries.

Residents took over South Hill streets Wednesday evening to promote pedestrian friendly activities and fitness. Children on bicycles shouted behind you to say "on your right", when in all actuality, they were on your left. They proudly dinged their tricycle bells with the kind of empowerment that only a grassroots event, like Summer Parkways, could instill. Geese Study

Washington Fish and Wildlife biologists and volunteers are putting leg bands on a thousand Canada geese to study population trends in Eastern Washington.

Waterfowl specialist Mikal Moore says they're trying to understand why nesting is declining in rural areas while complaints about urban geese have been rising.

The banding project began this week and continues through next Tuesday. Geese are currently easy to catch because they are molting and unable to fly.
