Neighborhood axes movie and picnic idea | Events

Looks like there won't be a picnic and movie night in Manito Park. The neighborhood behind the idea, Manito/Cannon Hill, hoped to plan for an August 7 outing in honor of the national awareness event, "Night Out Against Crime", but they say there wasn't enough interest.

Other city neighborhoods are planning their own Night Out gatherings if you're still looking for somewhere to participate. On August 3, there will be an event from 3-8:30 p.m. at the Royal and Lilac Plaza, located in the 300 block of E. Wedgewood.

On August 7, more neighborhoods are hosting block parties centralized around their region's COP shops. Here's the times and locations for that:

• COPS East Central, 2116 E 1st - 5-8 p.m.
• COPS Logan, 600 E. Boone - 6-8 p.m.
• COPS West, 1511 N. Elm - 6-8 p.m.
• Martin Luther King Center, 845 S. Sherman - 4-7 p.m.
• Target at the "Y", parking lot - 4-7 p.m.
