SpokeFest 2012: The power of pedaling | Events
This weekend, more than a thousand people will pedal through downtown Spokane for SpokeFest 2012. The event is a way to draw attention to the world of cycling. It's amazing what one bike can do. You can get in shape, lose weight, take a new route to work, cut down your gas bill, create new friendships and heck, travel the world.
My dad, who I've mentioned on this site once or twice, is on a quest to see the world on two wheels. He biked the entire United States in just 10 weeks. Now, he's in Europe staying at a campground in Austria. His next stop will be Munich, Germany.
'He's traveled thousands of miles all on a BIKE. Can you believe it? It's truly incredible. In the process he's lost almost 30 pounds. At 62-years-old he tells me he's never felt better.
His adventure has certainly raised my awareness about the cycling community right here in the Inland Northwest. It's amazing to see so many people cruising through Riverfront Park and winding through the rolling hills of the Palouse.
Tomorrow's adventure is for all abilities and all ages- training wheels to mountain bikes. So, what are you waiting for? Hop on a bike, who knows where you'll go!
A variety of Spokesfest routes will be open tomorrow in the city limits. Here's more information: http://spokefest.org/About/
