Fitness Success Often Starts At Home | Health

Obtaining your fitness goals isn't always easy. It can be especially difficult if you don't have the support of your family. The difference between success and failure in fitness may be a direct result of who you spend the most time with...your husband or wife. I spoke with Justin Rundle about getting the support way before you step into the gym.
United we stand, divided we fall, is a timeless phrase that has been used for centuries. The saying not only rings true for unifying nations, it is a motto that depicts basic principles of teamwork and life. Being teachers of the fundamentals of health, fitness and nutrition has allowed my wife and I the unique perspective of witnessing which people obtain the most often desired fitness goal of weight loss.
Generally, the most successful people all have the same thing in common, that is teamwork. To clarify, most people are not self-starters. Even if we are, the positive push of another allows one to rise to a performance level originally thought unobtainable. The better the coach, the more rewarding the outcome. With that said, the unfortunate reality is that having someone playing the role of your coach, trainer or workout partner is not the only factor in fitness success.
The time spent with this person in a given week only contributes to a small fraction of the overall hours allotted per week. The rest of your time will most likely be away from your training environment and will be full of factors that could derail your fitness goals. The solution, make sure your family is on the same team. Our most successful clients who have achieved victory in the infamous weight loss battle have all taken the knowledge taught from our sessions and have applied it at home, work and in social gatherings.
The same client’s families or significant others have rationalized they need to change their lifestyle too, whether they need to lose weight or not. Typically we all have a partner or group we participate in good or bad dietary habits with. Rarely does one partner strictly eat organic and clean while the other is a junk food addict. For those with their team on the same page, the health changes or almost instantaneous. While others with family members only half way on board or not at all, results are usually a gamble.
The problem does not lay with the program itself, but whether the user is able to apply it. If the person can apply the program with complete disregard to their surroundings, my hat is off to them. Even as a fitness professional I cannot personally do it alone.
I have to be on the same page as my wife for fitness success. Just remember, “United we stand, divided we fall.” Timeless quote that rings true to the basic nature of humanity.
