Half-staff ordered for Spokane soldier killed in Afghanistan | News

A Spokane soldier killed in action in Afghanistan will be honored July 2 by a statewide flag lowering in Washington state. Governor Chris Gregoire ordered Wednesday that all Washington state agency buildings be lowered to half-staff on Monday in memory of 20-year-old, U.S. Army PFC Jarrod A. Lallier, of Spokane.

Lallier was killed June 18th in Afghanistan when individuals dressed as Afghan National Police turned their weapons on him and opened fire. The Army Times reported that he was killed while eight other servicemen were wounded in that attack.

Lallier was a 2010 graduate of Mead High School and was serving with the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at the time of his death.

In a KXLY story in early June, Lallier's friends described him as an outgoing, sarcastic and fun guy. 

"There wasn't a negative moment with him, ever. If you ask any of our friends that's exactly what they would say," said Lallier's friend, Matthew Schroeder.

Teachers at Mead High School said he was respectville and leaned towards joining the military.

"Even in high school, he knew that was his calling," said Ken Russell, Mead High School Principal.

The flag lowering will coincide with Lallier's memorial service.
