Burglar attacks elderly woman in her own home | News
Spokane police need help finding a man who attacked a woman inside her home near the South Hill's Perry District Thursday afternoon.
The 62-year-old woman said the man knocked on her door on the 900 block of East 8th Avenue. When no one answered, he came in through the back door.
Police said the man took her camera however, when he was ready to leave, the woman confronted the man. That's when officers said he knocked he to the ground and beat her.
Officer said they believe this man in the type of criminal who randomly targets homes during the day. However, due to the nature in which he attacked the woman, police said they are fired up to catch him.
"The fact that someone was home and he confronted her and then went one step further and beat her up. Take the camera and run. Take what you are going to take. But the fact that he went ahead and started beating her up to the extent that she had to be hospitalized," said officer Jennifer DeRuwe of the Spokane Police Department. "We need him caught. Over the past few days, we've been canvassing the area."
The victim now has a cast on her wrist and is at home.
She describes the man as a white male in his 20s with a medium build. He was wearing a gray shirt and tan shorts. He also had collar length but very straight sandy-colored hair that hangs over his face.
Major crimes detectives believe the suspect could hurt someone else and are offering a cash reward for info that leads to his arrest.
