Lewis and Clark High School was evacuated early Tuesday afternoon due to a hazardous material situation.
School officials report a chemical spill prompted the precautionary evacuation. No injuries have been reported.
Classes were canceled for the rest of the day at 1 p.m. Students who drive or walk to school were allowed to leave campus. Students who ride the bus were going to have to wait about 30 mintues for buses to arrive or had the option of having their parents come and pick them up.
Spokane Fire officials report that the chemical spill was about a gallon of hydrochloric acid that was spilled in a stairwell in the third story of the school. It's not clear how the acid was spilled.
