Upcoming city council president forum hosted by Downtown Spokane Partnership

We're less than two weeks away from the August 16th primary election. Some of you may have already turned in your ballot, but others, don't deny it's still sitting on your kitchen table! In any case, if you're still unsure about your vote, Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) is partnering with Greater Spokane Incorporated to host an upcoming candidate forum for City Council President at The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture.

Candidates for Spokane Public School's School Board will be facing off Tuesday morning at a candidate forum hosted by Greater Spokane Incorporated (GSI). Tom Johnson, CEO of STCU and Chair of GSI's K-12 Roundtable, will be moderating the 8 a.m. forum featuring six of the candidates running for the school board position.

Budget talks between President Barack Obama and his GOP rivals remain at a frustrating standstill as lawmakers return to the White House for another negotiating session today. At Tuesday's House Republican Leadership Press Conference, Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris-Rodgers told reporters both sides of the aisle must work together to make ends meet. McMorris-Rodgers says before House Republicans even consider raising the debt ceiling, there needs to be significant spending cuts. Democrats say those cuts will affect important programs that we depend on today.

Rep. Inslee To Visit Spokane In Governor's Race

U-S Representative Jay Inslee is planning a trip to Spokane announce his candidacy in the race for governor. Inslee will launch his campaign Monday in Seattle, followed by a second event in the Yakima Valley town of Wapato. His advisors say he'll make stops in Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver on Tuesday. Inslee has spent more than a decade in Congress.

Candidate forums can be some of the best way to learn about your ballot choices. Watching oppositions tee off to carefully crafted questions by moderators is certainly one way to spend your evening. City Cable 5 is hosting multiple replays of primary election forums in July. They'll be recorded in front of a live audience in the City Council Chambers on Thursday, June 30th from 5 to 8 p.m. Hint: They're more fun in person!

The neighborhood councils had their say on Monday night instead of the normal city council meeting for the City of Spokane. The legislative agenda was postponed until next week. The neighborhoods met at West Central Community Center and featured presentations on their neighborhoods. Councilman Jon Snyder posted a recap of some notable presentations at his blog. It includes mentions of North Indian Trail, Emerson/Garfield, North Hill, Balboa/South Indian Trail, Five-Mile Prairie, Northwest and North Central.

Comstock Neighborhood Chair Files For School District Position

Even though the Spokane SD #81 Director Position No.5 lost one of its potential candidates today, another one has filed to fill that place. The chair of the Comstock Neighborhood Council, Sally Fullmer, filed her candidacy at 1:21 p.m. today. As of 2:52 p.m., 169 candidates have filed in Spokane County.
