Neighborhood Council Meeting Round-Up [12/19-12/23]

Every week, in every part of the City, there’s a neighborhood council meeting happening. They’re usually not too far away from where you live if you live in the city limits, so if you’ve never been, perhaps tonight’s the night to be involved with your community.

Not sure what neighborhood you live in? The City has a map for that. An agenda will be linked to - if it’s available.

Two elected officials reflect on the last four years

What do you have to say about the last four years? As the new year approaches, many ponder the decisions they made - or didn’t.

Two officials will ponder their challenges and accomplishments in a live broadcast called Council Connection because next year, they’ll no longer be the Council President and Spokane’s Mayor.

Joe Shogan and Mary Verner are meeting up for this year’s Council Connection, a monthly broadcast for council members to show their research and participation into projects. Shogan has the lead on this month’s connection and with Verner they’ll reflect on the last four years.

Details: It’s broadcast live on Wednesday, December 7th at 6 p.m. on CityCable 5. Viewers can call in during the program, (509) 625-6337. If you're unable to watch it live, it will be broadcast periodically on the same channel. It will also be streamed online.

Senator Murray Pushes Tax Cuts

Senator Patty Murray wants to save Washington families money by extending a payroll tax cut into next year. The Senate should vote on the Middle Class Tax Cut Act of 2011 this week.

Murray says "This legislation will save an average middle class family in Washington over $1,700 and would provide broad tax relief to over 150,000 small businesses in the state". She's calling on her colleagues to support the legislation which proposes a 3.1% tax cut, up from the current 2% cut.

The Senate is expected to vote later this week.

Two Ballots Were Left in Drop-Box Past Election Deadline

Two Ballots Were Left in Drop-Box Past Election Deadline

Elections crew waited about ten minutes before they checked ballot drop boxes at county libraries on election night. They were locked promptly at 8 p.m. to make sure nobody voted past the election deadline.

It was revealed at the Spokane County Canvassing Board Tuesday afternoon, that two ballots were still in the Moran Prairie drop box the next morning when crews double checked the boxes.

There was no shady behavior that evening. County auditor, Vicki Dalton, says that sometimes those ballots get stuck up there.
