Jay and Kevin's Food Drive And Slim's Mustache

Jay and Kevin's Food Drive And Slim's Mustache

The thousands of fan who listen to Jay and Kevin on 99.9 Coyote Country every morning know those guys are entertaining. And this week, they're bound to entertain even more as they head out of studio and into the Tomato Street parking lot at Francis and Division in North Spokane. I can only imagine the shenanigans about to take place.

They're there collecting food for their annual food drive. It started today and runs all week. The food and cash will go to Second Harvest. You can drop by and say hello to the guys and leave some food while you're at it.

Garland District Rises From The Ashes

Garland District Rises From The Ashes

The Garland District in North Spokane is rising from the ashes. Following the devastating fire that ripped through Fergusons and Mary Lou's Milk Bottle, the District is working to rebuild the historic area. And, I've got to say they're doing it in a creative, hip and yet nostalgic way.

The Garland Theater is hosting a benefit fundraiser with a special showing "Vision Quest" and "Benny & Joon", two movies filmed in Spokane with scenes from the restaurants. What better way to pay tribute to those businesses and for people to show support for their community.

Vision Quest shows October 8th at 10 o'clock in the morning. Benny and Joon shows the following week, October 15th at 10 o'clock as well.

Ferrante's Going Strong On Spokane's South Hill

Ferrante's Going Strong On Spokane's South Hill

Ask Tony Ferrante what makes his restaurant special it's simple. "We use nothing but fresh ingredients," said Ferrante, who opened the restaurant about 7 years ago with his wife Robbie.

The restaurant is a quaint Cafe nestled by the soccer field on the South Hill.Small cafe tables, wrought-iron lamps hanging from the ceiling and the walls are painted a deep olive and dark chocolate, which may be the perfect combination.

There's even a delightful gift shop with unique and special finds. One for you, one for me....The menu is simple classic Italian. Ferrante's specialty is perfect hand-tossed thin crust pizzas, just-right baked calzones, creative salads and Italian street-side quality Gelato.

A new restaurant hopes to open next door to Title Nine

There's a little mystery formulating in the South Perry business district. Title Nine employees said that a couple stopped by recently expressing their interest in leasing the neighboring space for a pub.

After a quick perusal of Washington State Liquor Control Board's liquor license applications, a new name is on the list.

Under the business name, Casper Fry Public House and Eatery, the owners have applied for a new application for spirits, beer and wine at the location of 928 S. Perry St. Ste A. That's right next door to the new Title Nine store.

Update - 1:16 p.m. - After only three hours of business, Parisian Cupcake sold out of their stock of 8 dozen cupcakes just after 12:30 p.m. on their first day.

"Our most popular flavors have been Summer Strawberry, Lemon Raspberry, Death by Chocolate and Very Vanilla. We're sold out on the chocolate," said owner, Melody Pugh.

They weren't sure what to expect for their first day, so they thought they'd make what they could sell. Tomorrow when they open at 10 a.m. you can expect 18 dozen for the day, more than twice today's amount.

China South Closes

Trader Joe's is coming in but the China South restaurant on Spokane's South Hill is going out.

The owners, Cho and Chan family trust have operated the resturant in the Lincoln Heights shopping center for 20 years.

Chin Ho Cho, one of the owners says the work taking place at the nearby Trader Joe's played a role in the decision to close.

They plan to build a new retail center after tearing down the building.

The bender includes a 3.5 mile trek along Spokane's historic Monroe Street and includes visits to about 10 establishments, depending of course on your endurance.  It's all to raise money for health care for kids in Jamaica.

For all of the details, here's a look at the official Pub Crawl flyer.
