Breaking Mews: An Afternoon with KXLY's Feline Friend

Breaking Mews: An Afternoon with KXLY's Feline Friend

For the past few months, the KXLY parking lot has been home to a stray feline. She’s been spotted flirting with employees outside, darting into the morning news meeting with story ideas and ready for breaking mews on top of our live trucks.

Only recently have we started taking photos of our new friend. She’s become a huge part of the KXLY Facebook presence. Viewers are throwing out name ideas and hoping for the kitty’s well-being.

The weather has been turning cold, but not our hearts. The lady will soon have a new home in south Spokane County with Producer Brian (5 p.m. newscast) where she’ll be put to work.

“She’ll have duties,” Brian said. “She’ll protect the chickens and ducks from mice invaders. She’ll protect the garden from moles.”

Problems Cancel One Of Cirque's 'Immortal' Michael Jackson Shows

Problems Cancel One Of Cirque's 'Immortal' Michael Jackson Shows

Cirque du Soleil's tribute to Michael Jackson is just too much to handle. The 'IMMORTAL World Tour' has canceled one of their Spokane appearances due to logistical problems.

The Saturday, November 12th performance is still a go, but Sunday's show had to be canceled.

Event organizers say it just takes too much time to move the production in and out of a facility. It has already caused big scheduling problems for shows in other cities on the tour.

The show features a complex set including a massive rigging grid, a huge stage and oversized props and animatronics.

Great Pumpkin Visits South Myrtle

Great Pumpkin Visits South Myrtle

Driving by Matt and Joni Thatcher's house on South Myrtle Lane, you might think they are the victims of a Halloween prank. Sunday afternoon, 30 pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colors littered their front porch. How did they get there? It depends on who you ask.

"I think they were brought here by an ice cream scooper," says 5-year old Anabelle. She doesn't know for sure who's operating that scooper, just that whoever leaves the pumpkins does so every single morning.

"I think they came from a farm," says 7-year old Matty. "And, they rolled down the hill."

Racing Pumpkins Down Spokane's South Hill

Racing Pumpkins Down Spokane's South Hill

Pumpkins of all shapes and sizes raced to victory Saturday morning for the first ever Great Pumpkin Race on Spokane’s South Hill.

The gourd-like squashes were redesigned into racing machines by families so they could meet their fate into a pile of hay bails at the bottom of 17th and Madison. Some pumpkins had roller skate wheels spiked through the shell. Others were simply duct taped to a skate board for maxiumum speed velocity.

The neighborhood event attracted nearly eighty kids for the race.

Meals on Wheels presented the event. Mollie Dalpae, director couldn’t resist the partnership.
